Corrosion classes



"Corrosion class" describes - with environmental examples - under what conditions treatments for iron and metal provide sufficient corrosion protection.


Corrosion class 0:  No aggressiveness.

Examples, interior:

Rooms with relative humidity less than 60% (for instance offices)

Corrosion class 1:  Insignificant aggressiveness.

Examples, interior:

Unheated ventilated rooms without condensation. Heated rooms with relative humidity above 60%, but without condensation.

Corrosion class 2:  Medium aggressiveness.

Examples, interior:

Rooms with changing influence of humidity and condensation for a short period.

Examples, exterior:

Changing influence of humidity. Rural atmosphere far away from industry.

Corrosion class 3:  High aggressiveness.

Examples, interior:

Changing humidity with heavy condensation. Chemical influence.

Examples, exterior:

In constantly moist environment. At heavy air pollution

Corrosion class 4:  Very high aggressiveness.

Examples, interior:

Constantly moist rooms (breweries, slaughterhouses, swimming halls). Chemical influence. Submergence.

Examples, exterior:

Polluted coastal atmosphere. Chemical influence. In water. In earth.


The corrosion classes are in accordance with Danish Engineer Association's instructions for corrosion protection of steel constructions: DS/R 454.
